About

Atelier Nué is my practice — I am Danish designer and artist Benedicte Maria, based in Aarhus, Denmark.

My work exists in the intersection of design, art and fashion. I work with materials traditionally close to the body — leather, wool and textiles — exploring how they can extend beyond the body and into space.

My pieces move between textile, sculpture and surface, shaped through stitching, layering and material tension.

I work slowly and hands-on, with a strong focus on tactility, weight and softness. I carefully select materials for their natural qualities and for the way they age over time.

At the core of my work is a fascination with materiality — how something soft can hold form, and how surfaces can carry both calm and presence.

My process is centered around my sewing machine, which I have worked with since I was fifteen. For me, sewing is a meditative practice — shaped by repetition, time and a conscious slowing down. Unlike digital work, where I am used to undoing actions instantly, craftsmanship demands commitment. If something is not right, I take it apart by hand and begin again. This resistance is essential — it grounds me in the process and connects me to time, material and presence.

I design and make every piece myself in my atelier in Aarhus. My work is available through galleries, selected retailers and private clients.
